Best Practices
Cooperative Marketing
The Cochise Origins was honored with the Cooperative Marketing Award which was presented to the project that best exemplifies the use of “non-traditional” or creative partnerships to develop, finance and/or execute a cooperative marketing effort. The award was presented at the 2009 Governor’s Conference on Tourism on July 9 in Scottsdale by the Arizona State Governor, Jan Brewer.
Innovative Promotions
The Innovative Promotions Award was presented to Copper Corridor Ore Cart Trail in recognition of demonstrating outstanding quality, creativity in planning and carrying out their promotional program. The award was presented at the 2009 Governor’s Conference on Tourism on July 9 in Scottsdale by the Arizona State Governor, Jan Brewer.
Special Events (Rural and Urban)
The Special Events Award was presented to Gold Rush Days, in Wickenburg for the rural category and NBA, All Star Game, Phoenix in the urban category. These events best embodied the word “special,” meaning the events created a unique draw for tourism and attracts visitors from outside the local area. These winning events stood out in the crowd because of their creative approach, distinctive appeal, media coverage and/or enhancement of community pride, thus benefiting the state’s quality of life. The awards were presented at the 2009 Governor’s Conference on Tourism on July 9 in Scottsdale by the Arizona State Governor, Jan Brewer.
Arizona Preservation
The Arizona Preservation Award was presented to Yuma Crossing Heritage Management; this organization has made the most significant contribution toward the preservation of the natural, cultural or aesthetic legacy of Arizona. The award was presented at the 2009 Governor’s Conference on Tourism on July 9 in Scottsdale by the Arizona State Governor, Jan Brewer.
Outstanding Members & Friends of the Industry
Spirit of Service
The Spirit of Service Award was presented to Mia Yates of the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, an individual who best exemplifies the Arizona tourism industry’s commitment to exceptional customer service. Intergenerational Volunteers of Camp Verde received the group Spirit of Service Award for their commitment to superior customer service in the tourism industry. The awards were presented at the 2009 Governor’s Conference on Tourism on July 9 in Scottsdale by the Arizona State Governor, Jan Brewer.
Tourism Champion of the Year
Mark Grenoble, President of Enchantment Resort and Group received the Tourism Champion of the Year Award which was presented to the individual who has made the most substantial contribution within the past year to improve and advocate for the Arizona tourism industry. The award was presented at the 2009 Governor’s Conference on Tourism on July 9 in Scottsdale by the Arizona State Governor, Jan Brewer.
Tourism Hall of Fame
Robert Brinton, President & CEO of the Mesa Convention and Visitors Bureau was honored with the Tourism Hall of Fame Award in recognition of a lifetime distinction of active involvement in tourism and unique contributions to the betterment of the industry and the State of Arizona. The award was presented at the 2009 Governor’s Conference on Tourism on July 9 in Scottsdale by the Arizona State Governor, Jan Brewer.
Special Recognition
Ken Travous, Former Executive Director, Arizona State Parks was awarded for his outstanding contribution to the tourism industry in the State of Arizona. The award was presented at the 2009 Governor’s Conference on Tourism on July 9 in Scottsdale by the Arizona State Governor, Jan Brewer.
