Get involved with Arizona Tourism – Every deal, conference and letter matters
In uncertain and down economic times, every little ripple makes an impact. The ATA encourages members to get involved and stay informed with Arizona tourism. With so much going on over the past month, here’s a sample of what the ATA and industry partners have been doing to promote our state and the value of Arizona.
- A statewide summer tourism campaign, Value Arizona, has been launched by the Arizona Office of Tourism and the Arizona Hotel & Lodging Association and was unveiled at a press conference held at the State Capitol in mid-May. The ATA Executive Committee, along with industry partners, were present at this launch and continue to encourage members and partners to send getaway deals to AOT & AzHLA, enabling them to promote the tremendous values here in Arizona. This campaign, which also encourages Arizonans to stay in-state, and thus keep more dollars here, will run until mid-September.
ATA members are encouraged to send emails to friends and family to promote the great values that are available during the summer. ATA Chairman of the Board Greg Gilstrap, for example, posted the following message on his individual facebook page:
“Everyone looking to travel to or in Arizona (if you already live here) needs to check out
http://valueaz.com/. There are unheard of prices being offered this summer – like $89 rooms at
resorts that are known for $400 rates…I can already taste the pool-side margaritas!”
- Phase Two of ATA’s Legislative Letterwriting Campaign presses on, with over 700 letters to the State Legislature sent to date, encouraging the retention of the Arizona Office of Tourism’s budget for tourism promotion. In addition, these letters have conveyed a ‘thank you’ tone to key legislators for their previous support of tourism in the January special session and for making the sacrifice to be a legislator in such tough times.

- The Arizona Highways Travel Show, another way for the industry to encourage in-state travel and promote the value of Arizona, was held May 30 & 31 at the Phoenix Convention Center. The Travel Show was a great opportunity for the consumers to learn about a wide range of attractions, activities and events that are available here in Arizona, all in one location. The ATA was proud to serve as a promotional partner for this first-time event.
- And still to come this summer, the premier tourism industry gathering - the annual Arizona Governor’s Conference on Tourism, will be held July 8 – 10, 2009 at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa. See more about the Governor’s Conference below, in the “Register Today – 2009 Governor’s Conference on Tourism” section.
