Arizona Tourism Industry Leaders Head to Washington D.C. to Call upon Congress

The U.S. Travel Association’s Fourth Annual Travel Leadership Summit will be held September 16-17, 2009 in Washington D.C. Beginning September 15, Arizona Tourism Leaders will be arriving in on Capitol Hill to meet with Arizona’s Congressional delegates to emphasize the economic and overall impact of travel and tourism in Arizona.

“It is a crucial year to attend the U.S. Travel Association's Travel Leadership Summit,” says Sherry Henry, Director of the Arizona Office of Tourism. “This is our opportunity to represent the Tourism Industry of the State of Arizona and sit down face to face with our Members of Congress to discuss important issues impacting our industry.”

Among the many issues that our Arizona Leaders will be speaking to the Congressional Delegates is the support of the Travel Promotion Act which will establish a national, public-private partnership to attract millions more international visitors annually. With no cost for the American taxpayer this will only bolster our revenue from overseas travelers.

Meetings are another hot topic that will be discussed by our leaders at the Travel Leadership Summit as they will be asking Congress to support S. 1530, The Protecting Resort Cities from Discrimination Act of 2009, to prohibit an agency or department of the U.S. from establishing policy that discourages or prohibits the selection of a resort or vacation destination for a conference or event.

Other topics our leaders hope to discuss with Congress include Transportation and Infrastructure Funding and Federal Funding of National Parks and Public Lands. In addition the latest research from the Arizona Office of Tourism will be presented showing the overall economic impact the State of Arizona brings to the United States through Tourism.
