What we have accomplished

Working collaboratively with the tourism industry, its associations and our partners, ATA has:

  • Hosted the first annual Unity Dinner, which brought together 700 people from more than 100 organizations and corporations, as well as our state, county and city elected officials from 20 cities throughout the state
  • Protected the continuation of an independent Arizona Office of Tourism
  • Sustained existing level of dedicated funding for state tourism marketing
  • Successfully lobbied to ensure that firearms are not allowed in bars or restaurants
  • Delivered presentations describing the importance of tourism throughout the state
  • Partnered with Community Colleges and tourism organizations to hold Workforce Development Forums throughout the state
  • Successfully lobbied to expand the Phoenix Civic Plaza Convention Center
  • Received state funding for the expansion of Phoenix Civic Plaza
  • Restored full Prop 302 funding for Maricopa County tourism promotion
  • Increased tourism promotion funding for Arizona by 25 percent
  • Conducted dozens of tourism education presentations through implementation of its speakers' bureau; trained dozens of industry surrogate speakers and reached hundreds of community leaders
  • Successfully lobbied support for a grant program that provides money to local airports
  • Successfully secured Congressional support for the airline programs after September 11, 2001
  • Successfully lobbied with industry consortium for extension of hours for sale of alcohol to 2:00 a.m. and consumption by 2:30 a.m.
  • Supported enactment of numerous cultural tourism initiatives and continuations including the Prescott Historical Society and the Arizona Historical Society
  • Assisted in the enactment of the food product liability limitation legislation
  • Actively supported legislation providing support for a second NASCAR race at Phoenix International Raceway
  • Worked aggressively in support of the enactment of continuation of the half cent sales tax for freeway and road construction and expansion of light rail
